Stamped by The US Army Inspector of Ordnance for the Rochester District were Lt. Colonel Ray L. Bowlin using the stamp, RLB from 1940, until 1942. Also stramped GEG initials of Auto-Ordnance’s inspector George E. Goll. Plus, it has has the US Army 'flaming grenade' approval stamp for combat service in WW2. all the previous stamps are its built in provenance it was acquired for combat service, in 1941, for the entry of WW2 by the USA, and approved for use in the Pacific Theatre and Europe

The absolute archetypal Tommy Gun of the Chicago Gangster era. Known as the 'Chicago Piano' it is probably the most famous American Machine gun ever made. There was certainly not a single 1930's Chicago Gangster movie made in Hollywood that did not feature the Tommy Gun. 1920's Millionaire Industrialist Richard B. Mellon once said of it "You could not run a coal company without Machine Guns".. 1928A1 model with Fluted Barrel, forward Pistol Grip, Cutts Compensator, Lyman peep site, long box mag. In the USA this gun is supremely collectable as one of the very best, and one of the most famous guns, ever made. Incredibly a 1928 pattern 'Tommy Gun' gun could sell in the US for up to $40,000, in fact one that was sold by a Sheriffs Dept, for charity, in April 2006 at Rock Island, was sold for $80,500. Very sadly, even though deactivated, we cannot export this gun to America, or outside Europe. Some of the infamous gangsters that used the Tommy gun were, Clyde Barrow, Bonnie Parker, John Dillinger, "Machine Gun" Kelly, "Baby Face" Nelson, "Ma" Baker and her sons & "Pretty Boy" Floyd. The Thompson submachine gun (nicknamed the Thompson or Tommy Gun) is an American submachine gun, invented by John T. Thompson in 1918, that became infamous during the Prohibition era. It was a common sight in the media of the time, being used by both law enforcement officers and criminals. The Thompson was also known informally as: the "Tommy Gun", "Trench Broom", "Trench Sweeper", "Chicago Typewriter", "Chicago Piano", "Chicago Style", "Chicago Organ Grinder", and "The Chopper".

The Thompson was favoured by soldiers, criminals, police and civilians alike for its ergonomics, compactness, large .45 ACP cartridge, reliability, and high volume of automatic fire. It has since gained popularity among civilian collectors for its historical significance. It has considerable significance in popular culture, especially in works about the Prohibition era and World War II, and is one of the most well known and recognised firearms in history.
