A Most Rare 19th Century Imperial Prussian Glaive Short Sword. In Beautiful Condition, Fully Conserved & Hand Polished Throughout
This is a very impressive Prussian short sword with a very wide and substantial broadsword blade. Possibly an 18th century, M1787 early infantry pattern version, of the M1787 Prussian falchion, the single edged wide bladed infantryman's short sword.
Numerous Prussian ordnance blade stamps, and regimental stamps to the hilt.
The Prussian infantry brigade usually had two regiments. Each regiment had three battalions (one fusilier and two musketier) and two grenadier companies. The two grenadier companies of first regiment and two of the second, were detached and formed combined grenadier battalion.
The seven battalions were formed in three lines.
This must be a most rare surviving example, as we have not seen its like for over 40 years, and it appears in no reference books that we can see, only the narrower longer bladed type we can find.
Overall it is in excellent fully original condition in all parts and respects, after spending over 25 hours being hand polished and conserved in our workshop.
Approx 27 inches long overall in its scabbard, blade length 20.75 inches, blade approx 2 inches wide
